The Hackfeld Gate initiative is seeking donors to preserve the gate and finance the installation of an explanatory plaque near the gate.

Hackfeld Gate wants to provide a resource that enables Hawaii history education, specifically of the mid 19th and early 20th century – the era of the Hackfeld & Co company in Honolulu. The gate should be positioned to serve the community as a real-life relict for Hawaii residents and visitors symbolizing the days when sugarcane and whaling were the economic backbone of the islands.

The stories, timelines, photos and visuals that will be presented are to tell the story of an influential Hawaiian company and the rise and demise of the German immigrant population that created it.

We hope to thereby facilitate the study of the past and ultimately allowing to draw parallels to other eras and the present.[/vc_column_text][/qode_elements_holder_item][/qode_elements_holder][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” background_animation=”none” css_animation=””][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
